Canada Student Visas Required Documents

What documents will be required?
Application for the student permit may require the following:
1. An original official letter of acceptance from an accredited educational institution detailing:
- the name of the institution;
- confirmation of your acceptance and/or registration as a student;
- the course of study;
- the duration of the academic program; and
- the latest date you may register.
2. A completed application form:
In order to complete your application you will need to know the cost of your education including tuition fees and books, medical insurance, return transportation costs and living costs for yourself and any dependants while in Canada. Living costs will vary according to province.
3. The application fee of $125 CAD payable in the local currency.
4. 2 passport size pictures for you and all dependants with the name and date of birth noted on the back.
5. Proof of identity (applicants from requiring a visa must provide original valid passport. Applicants from countries not listed need only supply a photocopy. Applicants who are US Citizens or Green Card holders require proof of citizenship or a copy of their green card).
6. Evidence of funds available to support you during the first year of your studies (bank statements from the past four months, proof of tuition fee payments, proof of funding from government or private scholarship). In general, $10,000 CAD for you and an additional $4,000 CAD for each dependant plus tuition fees for one year.
7. A transcript from your last program of study.
Prior to submitting your application, contact the visa office to see if you need to fill out any additional forms or provide any additional documents.
Further Requirements
1. Students intending to study in the Province of Québec, must obtain and submit a Certificat d’Acceptation du Québec (Quebec Certificate of Acceptance, or CAQ) from the Ministère des Relations avec les citoyens et de l’Immigration (MRCI).
2. Children under 16 years of age who are travelling alone must have information (name, address, phone number) about the person or school who will be responsible for them. If the child is the subject of a custody order, proof of custody and the other parent’s consent must also be provided. Minors travelling without their parents require a letter of permission from the non-accompanying parent(s).
3. A medical examination may be required in some cases, depending on your program of study, the length of time you will spend in Canada, and the countries where you have resided in the 12 months before going to Canada.

Time required to issue visa:
To avoid unnecessary delays it is recommended to apply for study placements at least six months prior to commencing at primary and secondary schools and one year prior to commencing at a university or college. The student permit process usually takes about 5 weeks to complete
