New Marks and Spencer job vacancies are to be created with a new out-of-town store in Wolstanton. The project budget is £40m. Newcastle Borough Council hasn’t approved the plan yet however it is anticipated to be approved with a list of proposed conditions.
The council asked M&S to re-open their Simply Food store in the town after they closed it down in 2009 with the loss of 19 jobs however the company couldn’t find a suitable location so that condition has been dropped.
Robert Murray, M&S Spokesman, says that M&S will still try to find a suitable shop to open their Simply Food store.
There were discussions about opening this flagship store in the town centre however there is no example of this size store to be in a town centre in the UK.
The Wolstanton store will create around 250 jobs once it’s completed and there will also be 100 temporary jobs during the construction.
When is Wolstanton Retail Park opening?
The company says that the store will open by spring, 2014.
