UK Universities

Buckhingham University

Why should you choose University of Buckingham? Here is the reasons!

1. How good are we?

So just how good is Buckingham? Don’t take our word for it, find out what our independent audit, conducted by the Quality Assurance Agency, and the National Student Survey 2007 had to say. You may also like to read about the Univesity’s success in the 2006 National Student Survey.
2. You gain a traditional 3-year degree in just 2 years

Buckingham’s honours degrees only take two years to complete so you can take a year out and still graduate with your peers. Students gain their degrees in just two years because they work intensively and efficiently with very short vacations. There’s no cutting of corners and no ‘distance learning’. You can start your degree in September, January or July. Find out how we fit everything in.
3. Guaranteed student accommodation in the first year

All students at Buckingham are guaranteed a room in student accommodation on-campus during their first year of study, provided that they complete and return their accommodation contract in advance. The attractive, quiet, safe campus provides the perfect place to study (although there are plenty of activities for those taking a study-break!).
4. Life skills

You will leave Buckingham with much more than your honours degree. The life skills you’ll learn here will stand you in good stead for life in the workplace. We have a high graduate employment rate with many of our graduates going on to work in high profile positions at top companies or studying for higher degrees at world-renowned universities.
5. Student:academic staff ratio

Buckingham’s student to staff ratio puts us among the top UK universities. We have one member of staff for every 9.7 students, whereas the UK university average is one member of staff to every 17.5 students. This ensures you get more personal attention and make faster progress – high teaching quality and a genuinely friendly atmosphere go hand in hand.
6. Global community

Buckingham is truly a global community with students of all cultures and ages. Over 80 countries are represented here, although our largest group still comes from the UK. Our international atmosphere is perfect for anyone who has enjoyed discovering different cultures, perhaps during a gap year. Our dedicated AlumNet website ensures that everyone stays in touch with each other and with Buckingham long after they leave.
7. High IT spend

We spend more per student on information technology (IT) than most universities in the UK; only four others spend more.
8. Dedicated care and support

Our personal and attentive service at Buckingham is perfect for students who need a little extra help. A high and continuous level of care and support is maintained from both an academic and a pastoral point of view.
9. Leading academic staff and small group teaching

Our academic staff are not just figureheads as in some institutions. They all teach their subject through lectures and tutorials and they are available to speak individually to students on a regular basis. Our largest lecture hall accommodates 186 students and tutorials are in small groups of 8-10 students. You are never lost in the crowd at Buckingham.
10. Buckingham is independent

Buckingham remains unique because, unlike other UK Universities, we do not receive direct subsidy from the Government and so we can focus on the student rather than worrying about regulatory interference.

From their website:

The name of Brunel University has become as well-known and respected in engineering circles as was the name of Isambard Kingdom Brunel a hundred years ago. Both reputations are well deserved, reflecting outstanding technical competence, creativity and commitment which have resulted in important advances in science and knowledge benefiting the lives of countless people. However, today, Brunel University’s influence extends far beyond the fields of engineering, science and technology, which were its traditional strengths. Bristol University

Please do visit official website of the university to get more and detailed information.

They say:

University College, Bristol opened in October 1876 with two professors, five lecturers and 99 students. It was the first college in the country to admit men and women on an equal footing.

Thirty-two years later, after much hard work by a variety of dedicated individuals and generous financial support from the Wills and Fry families (who made their fortunes in tobacco and chocolate, respectively), the College was ready to petition King Edward VII for a charter that would give it full university status. The King signed the charter in May 1909, and flags flew and churchbells rang across the city. The new University of Bristol opened in October 1909 with 288 undergraduates and some 400 other students. Henry Overton Wills became its first chancellor.

The University’s reputation grew steadily throughout the 1930s, helped in no small way by the appointment of Winston Churchill as its third Chancellor in 1929. It became known as an institution with formidable academic strengths and an unshakeable commitment to quality – characteristics that are just as apparent now.

The story of how the organisation progressed from its humble origins in a house on Park Row to today’s massive, international enterprise is briefly told in the timeline below.
