There are lots of aspects that are important to job satisfaction, and your salary is certainly one of them. The level of your salary not only affects what you can afford to buy, and the locations you can live in, but also contributes to your feelings of self worth, and how valued you are within your organisation.

Asking for a pay rise is often a difficult conversation to start with your boss, but if you really believe you deserve a salary increase, then step up and ask for it!

If you have regular one-to-one meetings with your boss then raise the subject during one of these. Alternatively make contact with your manager and arrange a time dedicated to discussing your career progression. When it comes to negotiating your salary, make sure you avoid these 10 common mistakes listed by Emolument.com.

– Be realistic with your expectations, and honest with your boss.
– When comparing your current salary with what competitor may offer, include salary, bonuses, discounts, perks.
– Negotiation is finding a compromise where all parties are satisfied. You are negotiating, not demanding.
