If you have been offered an interview for an Administrative Assistant then you will need to be experienced in admin work consisting of typing, filing, organising documents, ordering stationery and equipment, dealing with queries etc.
You will need to be a very organised person who provides help and support to a department or a team in administration terms.

If you are ready to go to your interview, you need to do enough research about the company and the job role. Normally you can find a lot about a company by looking on their website and you need to research this carefully so that you can answer questions on the company when you are asked.

Retail Buyer Interview Questions and Tips

If you have been successful in getting an interview for a Buyer position then you will already have plenty of experience as a Buyer or Assistant Buyer and have worked in a retail position previously doing this role. Although no formal buying qualifications you will have a background in the area eg: fashion footwear or clothing that you are going to be buying for.

As a buyer you will spend a great deal of your role travelling, meeting with suppliers, looking at samples and making the ultimate decision as to whether or not to buy the products and assessing if they will sell in the company you work for. You will need a keen eye and be able to keep on top of the latest trends.

If you are preparing for your interview, you will need to think carefully about how your experience matches with that of the job description and what you know about the company already. Go through your CV in detail highlighting the areas you are not so comfortable with and make a plan about how you could change that and how you are going to learn these areas?

Depending on the products you are going to be buying will depend on what kind of portfolio you have built up over the years but it may be an idea to take with you to an interview some examples of what you have been responsible for buying and an idea of how this has sold and why you made the decision.

If you have got an interview as a Call Centre Operator then you will be dealing with high volume inbound and outbound calls maybe working for one of the utility companies, finance companies etc. You will need to have excellent customer service skills and be able to spend the majority of your day talking to customers on the telephone and keeping accurate logs on who you have contacted and note any follow ups.

If you are looking to get a job as a Bar Person and have got an interview then you need to assess whether you have done this kind of work before and research the role and the bar carefully.

Tips

Go through your CV in detail and assess whether you have the skills that they require for the bar person job. Have you just served drinks or have you done a mixture of food and drinks and is this something they would like, do they serve food etc?
A bar person interview will usually be a lot less formal than an office worker interview for example but nevertheless your interviewer will still be looking to see if you have the right skills and personality for the job.

A big part of the role is customer services so this will need to be outstanding to do this role well. Your interviewer will looking for you to be organised and thorough as you will also be working out prices and insurances, things that require great attention to detail so once you have been through your own CV it would be nice to highlight these areas that you know you are good at and that you do these areas well. If you can think of specific examples from a previous work place this would be a good discussion topic when answering questions at an interview.

If you are looking to be a florist and have been successful in gaining an interview for a role as a Florist then you will normally have some previous experience with flowers and or dealing with customers maybe from working in a small shop.

Your interviewer will be looking to assess your knowledge on flowers, do you know the names of flowers and what they look like, have you got some interest in flowers and plants, can you talk to customers and help them if they do not know what they are looking for?

You will get to know some of your customers well in a small local florist so your interviewer will be keen to know that you want to and can develop these relationships. You will need a creative eye for making sure that the bouquet or arrangement the customer wants looks good and they will be happy with.
You may even have some part of liaising with the suppliers of where you get the flowers from and ordering in specific flowers for customers. You will need to have excellent communication skills and be able to judge appropriate conversations such as dealing with flowers for a funeral or a wedding.

Make sure that you do your research properly into the florist, how long have they been established? Do they just have the one shop? Is it family run business? Where do they get their flowers from etc? You can use this information in your interview to show that you have looked into their business and it shows that you are showing interest.

What are your favourite flowers?What other products could you entice our customers to buy?Compared to other florists that you have visited what stands out in this florist?Why would you choose to work here?How would your colleagues describe you?There are various questions you could be asked, if the florist is a family run business the interview is likely to be less formal and the interviewer will want to know they can work with you so personality is the key here.

If you have got an interview as a Checkout Operator then you will need to be familiar with the role itself unless you have done this before. Before your interview pay a visit to the store where you are hoping to be a Check out operator and see what the store is like, maybe go at different times of the day to see how busy the store gets and how big the queues get that you will be dealing with.

If you have got an interview for a Hotel Porter position then you will know from the advert or job description what the role entails. Start by matching your previous skills with what they are looking for from the ideal person.
