The article about career coaches. I personally don’t think that they are useful but some might think they are…

    example found here

“I currently work in IT and have been thinking about a change of career for about a year. Spoke to a career coach last summer and she seemed really positive. Decided to put it on hold as I had other commitments at that time. Things have changed a bit since then at work, my boss is in the process of leaving and I applied for his role. I was not successful but as they weren’t finding anyone else, I told them I was still interested and we were looking at ways for me to gain the experience required to re-apply. However, they’ve just found an external candidate and offered him the role. I am disappointed and a bit apprehensive about having to assist him in learning how to do the job I wanted!

Anyway, with all this going on I am still thinking about careers coaching, maybe into a different area outside of IT. I’ve spoken about it with my husband at length and he doesn’t think it’s worth the expense (approx £100 a month). He doesn’t know what I would get out of it and is in a time of uncertainty in his job and consequently thinks we need some stability at this time. I think he also thinks to some extent that I am making a fuss and doesn’t realise how unfulfilled I feel in my current position.

Just really want to get people’s opinions on whether career coaching is worthwhile? I’ve decided to take stock for at least a month and see how I feel then, but seeing as I have felt in need of a change for at least 12 months, I’d like to still not be asking myself the same questions this time next year.”
