Asda, Britain’s second largest supermarket group, has announced that 7,000 jobs will be created across its UK operations for this year’s festive season.

The roles, which will include home delivery, customer service and shop floor roles, are part of a £5m investment aimed at improving customer service over the busy Christmas period.

On the shop floor, Asda will be looking to recruit specialist service hosts to help customers find last-minute gifts and provide advice on the latest gadgets and clothing trends.

The retailer will also offer existing staff the chance to earn extra cash, with some 750,000 hours of overtime work expected to be available during the holiday season.

Asda will begin taking applications in September and will run assessment centres throughout the autumn. Successful applicants will start their new roles from November.
