ASDA has just opened a new store in Middleton, South Leeds and has created more than 300 jobs for the local people of Leeds.

The opening consisted of children from Cockburn High School performing dance displays as the store staff gave away free food and samples to the general public.

Local residents are thrilled not only with the new store but also that some of their family members have managed to secure jobs there without having to look further afield.
The Store Manager is very proud to be opening this new store in Middleton. He said that it has been an important part of opening the store to ensure that the local community were involved and that they have some local residents working in the store which is what they wanted. They are still receiving and welcoming applications now.

ASDA in conjunction with the Store Manager are also keen to support local charities and organisations and to provide a fantastic service to their customers. The majority of the jobs that ASDA have been recruiting for have gone to local people from the area and many of these people were out of work looking to get back into employment. This is fantastic for those people concerned and they will receive great training as part of ASDAs programme.
Hilary Benn, the MP for Leeds Central cut the opening ribbon for the new store and he said that he thought it was fantastic that the store had opened in the area. He believes that it is easily accessible for many of the surrounding areas in Leeds and that what ASDA have created in terms of jobs and excellent staff training is just brilliant for those involved. He added that he would like to pay tribute to ASDA for what they have created in Middleton.
Councillor Kim Groves (Lab, Middleton Park) said: “The majority of jobs have gone to local people, many who were out of work. The training is great which Asda offers. It is wonderful to see people living around here being inspired and motivated.”
