ASDA began work on the new 44,000 square foot superstore in Chorley located at the corner of Bolton Street and Pall Mall and Market Street in March this year and it is now beginning to take shape as you can see part of the metal framework on the town’s skyline.

The Senior Property Communications Manager, Philip Bartram said that the building work was all on track now and that the plans are to be able to open the store in November this year.  So far they have not encountered any problems with the building work despite the sheer size of it but they have built a number of these stores over the years so felt that they were used to it and what to expect.

Asda have two other stores nearby, one at Clayton Brook and the smaller supermarket on the Chorley Bypass and they have not got any plans to close these stores as they are still very popular to the local people.

Asda have said that when the store is ready to be opened they will ask someone in the community to open the store rather than getting a celebrity to do it to keep the community interest close to them, maybe someone involved in a local charity. Asda already have plans in place to work closely with the Job centre plus to target job seekers, especially the long term unemployed to find roles within their new store.

The new store will have approximately 440 parking spaces and will create 400 new jobs for the local people. There will also be a petrol station on site. This is a very exciting time for the people of Chorley and the people of Chorley have been very patient so far while the plans have been finalised and Asda are pleased for that.
