If you are interested in Bristol City Council jobs then carry on reading…

To have a Bristol City Council job is to be employed by the largest employer in the city. Roughly 16,000 people work for the council in a wide verity of occupations. With a population that is close to 420,000, it takes a lot of people to keep the city running smoothly. The council employs cooks, arborist, engineers, Librarians, childcare assistants, driver escorts, and gardeners. These are just a few of the jobs.

In fact, Bristol City Council employees are the engine that keeps over 500 services running in the city. And they are grouped in seven main departments: chief executive’s; central support services; children and young people services; adult community care; planning, transport and sustainable development; neighbourhood and housing services and cultural and leisure services. The benefits of working for the city council are nice. Of course, there’s the Local Government Pension Scheme and competitive salaries that are reviewed yearly. But employees also get at least 24 days of holiday each year. That rises to 29 days once an employee passes the five year mark.

The council also boasts about its family friendly policies, which include entitlements for maternity and paternity leave. A childcare voucher scheme is also available. Flexible work schedules, such as flexi-time, part-time, job-share and term time, can be arranged for those with family or other obligations. Bristol City Council also believes it’s important that its employees receive the best in training and skills development where needed. This is an opportunity that’s available to all employees.

The council believes that well trained employees will help it meet its organisational objectives and provide quality service to its citizens. The council’s website says that its Performance Management and Development Scheme is used to determine development and training needs. 40 hours of development and training time is allotted for each employee in a year. As long as the needs are in line with the council’s business objectives, a wide range of development and training solutions are available.

At the time this article was written, there were 23 jobs advertised on the council’s website. The highest paid position, which ranged from £34,430 to £41,616, was for a solicitor / senior practitioner. Two positions shared the lowest pay of £15,039 to £16,054. They were the vacancies listed for telephone service operators and home care assistants.

Job seekers are encouraged to apply online, but it’s possible to use alternative means of applying for positions. An email address and a phone number are provided so applicants can request an application package. It’s important to note that the council does not accept curriculum vitaes. The council’s website also mentions training opportunities with the National Graduate Development Programme. At the time this article was written, there were a couple of training opportunities for graduate trainee managers.

One was listed as a two year rotating work placement opportunity, where the trainee will be working throughout the council on issues that affect the council’s services. The next one is for a Warwick Postgraduate Diploma in Local Government Management. Here, the trainee will be mentored by senior employees.
