A quick question regarding this, i have receny been made unemployed and i am awaiting a redudency payout as my employers company has gone into liquidation, i am led to beleive that anything a claim in regards to jobseekers would be repayable in the event i found alternative employment before receiving the payout.

I have also signed onto a free course via the job center to update my cv and get interview techniques from an independant advisor, would this also be repayable ?

I am cofused with all this so any advise on the matter would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks in advance

Your jobseekers payments are based on the length of time that you are out of work, and requires evidence to prove that you are genuinely seeking new employment.  It has nothing to do with your redundancy payments, and unless you are claiming inappropriately you should not need to make any repayments to HMRC… and that includes any free training you have been given by Job Centre.

Hi, you should be fine in terms of your redundancy payment. It’s any notice period that is paid in lieu that affects when job seekers allowance starts but I’m assuming that you received no payment in lieu of notice if the firm went into liquidation? So I don’t think you need to worry about that.
Also, the support and any training courses that you sign up to as you described will not be repayable. These are initiatives designed to help people get back into work and are funded by the government. If you want further information on other initiatives that the government has introduced to get people into paid employment, check out the DWP website.

I dont know who told you this, but as others have said JS is based on your period of time out of work (providing you didnt voluntarily quit) and is there for your support whilst you are seeking alternative employment, redundancy payment will not effect JS but it MAY effect Income Support and that is maybe where someone has got confused
