Tesco to Create 20 Jobs in Brentwood
The UK’s largest supermarket chain, Tesco, is to open a fourth store in Brentwood, Essex following the closure of one of the town’s pubs.
The supermarket giant took ownership of the ex-Warley Tavern, on Warley Hill, and will now renovate the building into a Tesco Express outlet.
Tesco has two established outlets of this type in Brentwood, on The Broadway in Shenfield and at the Esso filling station in London Road.
Another Tesco Express store is already under construction and due to open In February on the site of the former Woodpecker pub, at the junction of Hanging Hill Lane and Hutton Drive.
Tesco does not need planning permission to turn the Warley Tavern into a supermarket and the conversion is expected to begin immediately.
There are currently 1,487 Tesco Express stores in the UK and the number is growing rapidly as the company takes over independent traders as well as abandoned pubs such as this one.
The new store will create up to 20 jobs for the area and the company believe the move could benefit other businesses by increasing footfall on Warley Hill.
