A brand new retail park proposed to be built in Gainsborough is predicted to create 50 jobs and provide opportunities for growth in the area.

Designed by Brian E Wright Architects from Washingborough in Lincoln, the development would provide six units with a combined 1,524 square metres of retail space and with parking for 68 cars. There would also be two large retail park totems providing clear roundabout frontage signage.

Developers MF Strawson Ltd say that the units could be available from autumn 2013. The development will bring much-needed employment and regeneration and create around 50 new jobs in the town. The unemployment rate in Gainsborough stands at 5.4%, almost two per cent higher than the rest of Lincolnshire.

It is estimated that retail park would take approximately nine months to build. The application has been registered and West Lindsey District Council is now consulting various organisations including the general public.

Local opinion about the new shopping centre is mixed with some expressing that it would be good for the local economy and a boost to jobs in the area, whist others were concerned that there are already many empty shops in the high street and the demand for these new units was not a reality.

Great news on the new jobs.  I can understand the split of people who say yes great, and those who say the retail park isnt needed.  My opinion though is if the jobs are created, it really doesnt matter where (within reason obviously).  It can be trickier to fill empty buildings in the town centres if the rates are high etc or there is direct competition or you are an exclusive brand.
