I had my first job interview in 6 years yesterday. I was dressed in a nice new suit and smart black heels. I think that it went well and that I did everything right. (Was looking on this site for tips).

I received a reply today and I don’t have the job.

I’d like to send an email asking for feedback but I don’t know how to phrase/write it.
    What should I ask?

    Thanks for any help.

    Hi

Probably way too late now, but I would have phrased it something along the lines of

    “Dear
Thankyou for the .  I agree it was very disappointing news as I was looking forward to working for your company.  Please could I ask you to forward some feedback as to why I was not sucessful this time, as it then gives me something to work on for future interviews

    Many thanks

    – keeps it short, polite and makes them see you are really interested in why you didnt get it

If you have another interview and aren’t successful, don’t be afraid to write a nice, polite email or letter asking for some feedback. The worst they can do is say no!

I think the example Glenys gave is very helpful, and something along those lines should be fine.

Don’t come across as looking for sympathy or begging for them to give you another chance.

Thank them for the opportunity they gave you, and ask for “brief feedback” to help you improve for next time.
