I got an e-mail this morning saying that I have been selected for a phone interview at HSBC, has anyone been through their application process? I was hoping to find out more information so I know what to expect.

HSBC does a competency questionnaire on the phone and if you are not very well on that then they can easily reject your application.

I don’t know what do they do about numerical and verbal questionnaire.

I would have thought that all telephone interviews would be very much the same? – I don’t have any experience of an HSBC interview so can’t really comment specificially, but good luck

Telephone interviews can be quite nerve-racking, so just remember to keep calm. Keep all paperwork and important documents you may need in front of you, as this will help you to avoid having to rush off for a moment to get necessary papers or flick through a pile in order to get the one you need, thus making you seem not very organised.

Employers do scrutinise almost everything in interviews, including telephone interviews, so remember to be sharp and alert even though it’s over the phone.

I would agree about having everything to hand. Sit in front of a desk and table where you can have everything laid out in front of you so you do not have to sort through a pile of papers on your lap and risk dropping them. Also try to schedule it so everyone is out of the house or at least out of the room as background noises of animal, children or just rowdy behaviour would not sound good!
