If you apply for a job in a clothes store, should you wear clothing bought at their store for the interview?

This is an interesting question. Obviously wearing clothing from that shop will show that you know something about their clothes and that you like them. However, it is important not to go over the top, so perhaps wear a few key pieces but not a whole outfit as it may look too staged. Also you will still need to make sure that the clothes you are wearing are suitable for an interview.

If you wear plain, smart clothes, they may not realise that the clothes are from their store anyway. However it is a nice added touch, and will enable you to back up the point that you are a fan of their business. Don’t point out that you’re wearing their clothes, though. It might be a good idea to perhaps wear a jacket from their store that you can remove when you sit down – they will have seen it, but it isn’t over the top.

I wonder if the interviewers would even necessarily recognise clothing from their own range. It would depend on whether they actually worked on the shop floor. Has anyone actualy experienced this?
