Would you resign over the phone? Do you think it’s rude to resign over the phone? What would you say when you are resigning on the phone?

I think this thread will be helpful for those who can’t decide on the method of quitting.

It is common practice to resign in writing. This is because the letter can be placed on your file and the leaving date calculated properly. Resigning over the phone would not be formal enough and it is likely that you would be asked to put something in writing if you did so. This would obviously depend on the size of company though.

If you wish to resign, there needs to be official documentation that you have done so, and this is best in the form of a letter. If you want to make your intent clear that you wish to resign then it would be better to do it in person. Remember that you may want a reference from this company for your next job, and if this is the case you need to ensure that you have left things as positively as was possible under the circumstances.

When we quit our job, we must provide authentic document. So, Resigning on the phone is not just quite proper.
