An army career can seem daunting and there may be ways to prepare for it. Perhaps working for the MOD could be a way to get an insight n to government work. Does anyone have experience of moving from MOD work to the army and can they comment on whether they felt it was a help?
I have done MOD work in the past and think that it gave me some idea as to what it is like working for the government. However, I feel that working for the army would be very different to a desk job and it would be very different, but this is just my guess.
The opposite can be , from army to MOD
I served 10 years+ in the British Army. The MOD is a completely different kettle of fish, your best bet is to join the Reserves (TA) first although even that isn’t the same… Unfortunately there is no job in the world similar to life in the British Army and the only way to know is to take a leap of faith. It’s not everyone’s cup of tea but if you enjoy it, you will form your fondest (and worst) memories of your life there.

It’s not really the same thing, so I don’t think it would be specifically helpful, however there are of course transferable skills that you could take forward to any job. If it is the type of thing that you would be interested in then I would say that it is well worth going for it. If you can get through the training for the army then that should give you an idea of what you’re letting yourself in for.
