How to present a CV after a length of Unemployment.
Many people have found themselves unemployed for a lengthy period of time. Perhaps you have been sick or disabled for many years, or perhaps you had a lengthy career break In order to raise a family? It can be off putting to employers to see a patchy CV, or a CV with long gaps of unemployment or many short term jobs listed. The best way to counter this issue is with a good explanation in your covering letter, and by ensuring that gaps of more than a few months are explained on your CV. I have shown as an example below of how unemployment spells can be explained.

Work History January 2010 – Present
Sports Coach, Venus Health Spa, London
Working as a Sports Coach in this fabulous health spa it was my job to encourage and motivate guests to participate in sports. I would meet with each guest at check in and see what goals and aims they had, whether it is fitness or weight loss, and then suggest a regime of sports and exercise to complete during their stay. I would then guide them through each activity, and motivate them to keep it up after leaving!
January 1990– January 2010
Unfortunately I had a car accident in 1990 which caused me many physical and mental issues, leaving me unable to work. I went through a period of rest and rehabilitation, whilst keeping myself up to date with education.
In 1990 I went through a complicated divorce and decided it was best for my children to take a break from my career.

Sports Coach, Big School, London
Working for this inner city school as a sports coach it was my duty to try and engage children in sport. I would have to try and get them to understand the benefits of exercise, and work as teams to achieve goals. I ran after school leagues to encourage healthy competition.
