The Mulberry fashion brand has announced that it will create around 300 jobs at a new factory that will be built in Bridgwater.

Work on the plant, which will focus on manufacturing its high brand bags, starts next month.  November will also see the start of the company’s recruitment programme to fill the 300 available posts.

The company has given a commitment to hiring people local to the factory, which will be seen as a welcome boost to the town’s economy.  It also runs a popular apprenticeship programme in conjunction with Bridgwater College.

The new factory is scheduled to open next summer and will double the company’s manufacturing production in the region.  The local MP was delighted to hear the news, stating that the investment would substantially boost the local economy and help local people to find work.

A spokesperson for Mulberry stated that the company was looking forward to bringing its creative history of leather bag manufacturing and its modern practices to Somerset.  He added that the company is committed to keeping its production activities in the UK and is one of the few luxury brands that still regularly invest in the country.
