300 new jobs could be on offer in Leicestershire when French parcel delivery company settles on a site for a new sorting depot.

DPD is looking at five possible sites between Leicester and Rugby for the planned £100 million parcel hub, set to be one of the biggest of its kind in Europe. The company is looking towards having it up and running within two years.

In Leicestershire, they are believed to be looking at Glenfield Park, close to junction 21A of the M1. The parcel firm already has a depot at Meridian Business Park, near to Glenfield Park

The delivery company said the move was part of a £175 million expansion to create 1,500 jobs because of growing demand from customers.

It said it had seen a sharp rise in online business orders and this investment will allow the company to expand their network capacity further to meet the demands of customers and maintain very high service standards.

DPD, based in the West Midlands and a subsidiary of French-owned La Poste, said it had secured £70 million of new business as a result of an investment in a system that uses GPS technology to provide customers with a one-hour delivery window.

What great news for the Midlands.  I hope they not only find the site they want but that all the planning permissions go through with no delays.  The midlands really needs this at the moment and the amount of jobs this is proposing will be super for the area
