Newport in Wales is set to gain 62 new jobs when the new Marks and Spencer store opens in the Newport Retail Park at the end of January.

Around a third of these jobs will be provided through the Marks and Spencer back-to-work programme dubbed ‘Marks & Start’.

Collaborating with charities Remploy and Gingerbread, Marks & Start will offer 26 jobs at the Newport branch specifically for those who have been out of a job for a long time. The scheme is an employability programme which supports over 800 people each year by providing work experience placements in their stores and offices throughout the UK. It builds people’s confidence, and has made M&S a diverse and inclusive place to work.

All the new team members will join other staff moving from the old site, which closed earlier this month, with a total of 152 strong workforce being based at the new store.

The fresh 39,000 sq ft M&S includes a 120-seat café and will also bring the trendy women’s-wear range, Per Una, to the Newport area for the first time in its history. The store will also have a contemporary food hall and free parking.

Fantastic! M&S are doing really well to be expanding, just what the country needs, more jobs for people, this should help the economy no end.  Also, the fact that a set number of jobs are for the long term unemployed is even better news.  That means that some will be getting a job that havent had success elsewhere!
