Protests are taking place on 5th January 2015 among the rail union workers from RMT. They are worried about job cuts at First Great Western.

The reason for their concerns is that there will be new trains introduced next year and these will not have buffet cars. This means that there may be less need for so many staff on the trains and therefore there could be job cuts as a result of this.

The union members are campaigning to defend jobs that are under threat and have said that if jobs are cut they will consider further strike action.

The new trains will be Japanese style bullet trains and it is thought that as they are introduced over the next three years there will be less opportunities for staff to be on them and therefore cuts will need to be made.

I always worry that protests will make people even more likely to lose their job. I would be inclined to work harder and prove that I am needed rather than protest. What do others think?
