The food company Quorn have announced that they are going to be creating approximately 400 new jobs through its multi million pound plans for expansion. The expansion will take place at its facility in Billingham and the reason for expansion on such a wide scale is due to meat free products sales increasing.

The Stockton North MP, Alex Cunningham took a tour around the site and was shown how it all works and how work is increasing which means Quorn need a third fermenter to boost the production of its products by approximately 50%.

Quorn will be creating approximately 100 new jobs over the course of 18 months during the construction process and then a further 300 roles which are expected to be recruited for once the third fermenter is up and running.

The increase in production is after a continued period of growth by the company who have seen their sales grown by 13% in the UK and 21% internationally in the last 15 months. The expansion is to keep up with the new demand and to be able to serve the general public their customers and also entice new customers to the Quorn brand.  People are more aware of what they are eating these days and what forms of protein they need to eat and this is what Quorn products contain and the health benefits associated to this are important to people.

Quorn is based in Stokesley, North Yorkshire and Alex Cunningham the MP for the local area said that he thought it was a brilliant example of a local business performing well and keeping ahead of the times not just in the UK but also internationally.

Unlike a lot of UK businesses, Quorn have kept their roots and are investing in their site in Billingham rather than moving their operations abroad or to other parts of the UK and this boost will have an impact on the local residents of Billingham in a positive and long term way.  Quorn are very keen to develop their existing staff as well as bringing new skills into the company.
