Royal Mail Postman / Postwoman and Mail Sorter interviews can be discussed in this thread.

As many other company interviews where a group of people working together, Royal Mail will also ask team related questions such as “Give some examples of Teamwork” or “Tell me a time when you worked as a team” etc. Better to be prepared for this questions.

You should also expect fiollowing questions and be prepared for them too:

    • When have you taken responsibility for something?
    • Have you ever been faced with a particularly difficult situation?
    • What are your strengths?
    • How would you deal with a customer who is disappointed with the service provided?
    • Tell me about yourself (this one likely to be first one at your interview)
    • What makes you different than other candidates?

You will also receive questions about Car Maintiance since you will be driving a Van when you are doing your job. How to change a tyre, What parts of the Car you would check before driving? etc.
What do I need to take with me for my job interview with Royal Mail?

    • Proof of address- Utility bill or Council tax letter. (photocopy)
    • Proof of ID- Passport (photocopy front cover and inside) Or Driving Licence and counterpart (photocopy them).
    • 2 passport photos.
    • Proof of right to work in UK- NI card (photocopy)
    • Take your application summary
    • You will need to take your passport and

National Insurance Number with you for your interview.
You will also sign a contract about your employment once you have been successful with your interview.

A medical form will be required to start working.

Make sure you have to details of your Bank account for the payments.

Job applications must be made through their online site and you fill forms and try to pass an online assessement.

You will receive an email which will tell whether you were successful and a link for you to choose an interview day.

You must have right to work in the UK in order to apply for positions at Royal Mail.

Interview questions seem fairly standard for most jobs. On my interview I got asked things like:

    1. Have you ever been in a position of trust by someone giving you something to look after?
    2. Give an example of when you worked as part of a team.
    3. Give an example of when you had to work on your own initiative.
    4. How would you deal with an customer who is not happy with the service they have received?
    5. How do you keep yourself fit?
    6. Give an example of when you worked to a deadline.
    7. Have you ever done a repetitive job before and what did you do to make it easier?

So you gotta answer this questions before going to your interview with royal mail.

Royal Mail will do a security check on you as well before proceeding with your interview.

I agree, Royal mail will CRB check you before they offer you a job.  I suspect they will probably credit check you as well.  You may wonder why, well, i would say as you are likely to be handling mail, that could well include money (in birthday or christmas cards for example) they will need you to be squeaky clean on the credit front.  They dont want to be running the risk of accusations of people stealing mail because it contains money in order to pay off their own debts (not saying it would happen, but you got to see it from their point of view)

Although the pay rates are not very high, Royal Mail are often looking for temps over Christmas.

Although it may be too late now to apply for a job as a Christmas temp, there are many positions besides postmen and postwomen that the Royal Mail has to offer people.

Working in the sorting office can be a good evening job for students, and in some cities around the UK, the pay rate is higher than minimum wage even for 16 and 17 year old students. If you don’t like the idea of early mornings and delivering post in the rain, look at some of the other positions available.
