Royal Mail’s £75 million investment programme is set to benefit Buckshaw Village in Chorley, where a new parcel processing centre is due to be opened next year.

The move will create 150 new jobs in the area and further strengthens Chorley’s reputation as a well located place to conduct businesses.

The investment is part of Royal Mail Group’s strategy to grow its parcels businesses in the UK and overseas and will enable Royal Mail Group’s express parcels business to meet the rapid growth in demand in the business-to-business, business-to-consumer and consumer-to-consumer markets.

In the last reported financial year, Royal Mail Group’s parcels businesses accounted for 48 per cent (£4.2 billion) of total revenues. The rise in internet shopping is believed to be driving the company to further invest in technology to streamline its parcel operations and cope with this demand both now and into the future. Recent research suggests that online retailing will account for 12.4 per cent of GDP by 2016. That means becoming a much more customer-focused company being run on commercial lines and investing in new, vital technology.
The jobs are regarded as good-quality with an excellent level of job security and it is hoped that the success of the centre will lead to further job openings in the future.

Super news! I thought the RM parcel distribution office was over that way, this is exciting news.  Another 150 jobs created in the area, fantastic.  Just goes to show that while some companies are having to cut back, others are expanding and able to offer jobs, this is just what we need
