Sainsburys are to create 1,000 jobs in London

Sainsbury’s have announced their plans to create 1,000 new jobs as they open 50 new Convenience stores in London and the South East before the end of 2014 bringing the number of ‘Locals’ up to 200 in the region.

These plans follow on from Sainsbury’s statement that their Local business grew 18% during 2013 compared to the previous year, while they opened 87 new convenience stores across the UK in 2012-13 bringing the current total up to 523 nationwide.

The supermarket started in Drury Lane, London in 1869 so Sainsbury’s in this region has a long history and is determined to maintain its high profile.

The Sainsbury’s Local stores are smaller than the usually out-of-town supermarkets that the chain is known for.  They offer a varied line of convenience items and due to their smaller size can be located in the town centres and hearts of communities.
