People have been left stunned by the news that Sainsbury’s have decided not to build a new supermarket creating 200 jobs of a full and part time nature for the new store in the Wadebridge area.

Only a few weeks before the construction work was due to begin, it has been announced that the store in Wadebridge will not be built at this time but this has left people very shocked and the local residents want the council to answer as to why this is now not happening.

This build has not been as straight forward as simply saying that it is no longer going to be built as many established businesses in the town have signed deals related to the supermarket giant opening in Wadebridge and now everyone is talking about it and they want some answers.

The site where Sainsbury’s were planning to build has now been left as a messy brownfield site which is going to be unused so the local people are very unsure of its use and what will happen for the future.

The new Sainsbury’s store was meant to bring promised community benefits to the people of Wadebridge so understandably they are not pleased that this is not going ahead. This came about after reviewing their building programme but Sainsbury’s have said they may come back in 2015 and assess the situation again. This is not the only planned store that they have decided not to build this year.

Sainsbury’s have answered by saying that it is one of the stores they have decided not to build at this time. The proposed store was supposed to have petrol station as well as a supermarket and it was meant to be opened by Christmas.

Sainsbury’s are now clearing up the site which had begun work already and they will now make the site safe and secure for now. The people of Wadebridge are very disappointed at the news and the retailer had agreed to contribute £800,000 in the community as part of the consent for planning.
