The Sainsburys store on Meole Brace Retail Park in Shrewsbury is looking to expand and improve its store which will create up to 100 full and part time roles for the supermarket.
It was only back in 2012 when Sainsburys were given planning permission to extend the sales area of the store from 50,000 square foot to 68,000 square foot.  Having looked at the expansion that they want to do further they have had to revise these plans to extend the store further and they are looking to submit planning application in the next few weeks.
A development surveyor working for Sainsburys, Jo Hawley said that they have been looking to invest in the store and to be able to improve it for some time now and they are hoping that Shropshire Council will approve their new plans so that they can begin work in early 2015.  The revised plans mean that the sales area will increase to just over 69,000 square foot.

As well as the increased sales floor there will be other changes and improvements to the outside of the store including changing the car park and layout to make sure that the access is much easier allowing people in and out of the store quickly and they will be moving the petrol station to the rear of the site.

There is a lot of building and improvement works going on and in January Waitrose announced that they were going to be creating a further 200 jobs when their new supermarket was finished situated at Percy Thower’s site in Otley Road.  The Waitrose store is part of a new £40 million shopping development which Shropshire Council granted in July 2012.  This new store is to open late 2015, later than first thought due to construction issues.

The Percy Thrower’s site will also create seven new shops and is expected to create an additional 100 jobs on top of the people who will be employed at Waitrose which is excellent news for the town.
