I was made redundent in South Africa in 2009 after 15 years with a Freight Forwarding company
I then started to make arrangements to immigrate to the UK and so I did not apply for any other employment and spent my time completely renovating my house (as and when funds became available) getting it ready for sale
When my Indefinate Leave to Remain visa came through in December 2010 I put my house on the market                  I eventually moved to the UK in June 2011 after all the legal requirements for the sale on my house and emigration proceedures were finalised
Since June 2011 I have undergone several courses converting the South African proceedures and practices to those used in the UK and have done a little TEMP work
My problem is the 2 year un-employment time and getting security clearance for the Freight Industry (ie airfreight and seafreight)
I have got a UK ENHANCED DISCLOSURE certificate and a South African Police clearance certificate
Can any one tell me how I can get security and employment history checks done without being employed
All the Vetting companies I have approached will not do these checks for a private individual and I cannot seem to get permanent employment with out them

This is not my area of expertise. I wonder if Citizens advice could help you, or perhaps you will get this disclosure when you find an employer who wants to hire you who will put you through it?

Tricky this one.  Again no experience but i’m sure they must have come across it before, have you actually spoken to the companies and explained why you have the gaps, its more the “gaps” they are curious about, if you can explain you were waiting your indefinate leave to remain etc that could be ok?

This sounds a bit complicated to me. I’m sure there is someone you can contact about this. Have a Google search if you’re still looking for some information about this. I know it’s difficult sifting through webpages, so if you can get hold of a phone number or even an email address, you can contact someone directly who can hopefully help you.

    Good luck with that.
