    Hi
I would like some advice on getting into work in drug and alcohol rehabilitation.  I am a 35 year old based in London with work experience to date in teaching English as a Foreign Language and administration in the charities sector.  Perhaps you work in rehabilitation or know somebody that does?  Your advice would be gratefully received.  With many thanks,  Kate

As you don’t have experience dealing with the rehabilitation and social work, you will probably have to get some formal training behind you.  It may be worth doing some voluntary work first to get your foot in the door (and make sure it’s something you really want to do before you retrain!)

Really working in drug and alcohol rehab needs a counselor training and experience in the particular field. This is an ideal job for those who are already involved in the helping professions like nurses, school counselors, social workers, ministers and other youth volunteers. Alcohol and Drug Counseling is a demanding and rewarding field. The competition in this field is also very less as very few persons have explored such a career. More details about alcohol & drug counseling can be obtained from the following site. http://www.villanova.edu/vpaa/continuingstudies/programs/certificates/counseling.htm
Hope this career would attract more people as their is a high demand for councilors in rehab centers.
