Software Developer Salary
Software developing involves a combination of creativity, an analytical and logical mind and a technological awareness. Normal entry level is as a graduate in IT but there are graduate trainee schemes if you do not have an IT related degree or BTEC.
Software developers will develop programmes to assist businesses to operate effectively. This can be varied work including building databases or administrative programmes. It could involve creating new programmes or amending their existing software. You will need to have excellent customer service skills and listening skills as you will liaise directly with the client to find out exactly what they want and what the programming needs to do. So this could involve discussing a problem they have, creating a test piece to show the client, then install and test it for compatibility. Ironing out bugs in the system is an important part of the role to ensure everything works as it should and then a full version of the programme can be installed. Again checks need to be carried out, training provided to the business on how to use and update the system and ongoing support provided in case of queries.
Starting salary: £20,000 – £26,000
Experienced salary: £28,000 – £40,000
