The Coffee shop Starbucks have confirmed that they are going to be opening a new store on the outskirts of Yeovil at the Peel Centre, at the bottom of Babylon Hill. This new store opening will be creating 20 new jobs for people in the area and Starbucks are looking forward to this new store opening in August.

The new store will be next door to Boots and there will also be approximately 12 tables on the street outside. This new store opening is with the Franchisee Amsric and Starbucks are pleased to have this partnership with Amsric.

The Peel Centre has seen other development and new stores opening which is fantastic news for the people of Yeovil. TK Maxx opened in the Peel Centre last September. The parking at the Peel Centre is free and the business rates are much lower making it easier for businesses to move into the centre and open their shops.

Business rates in the town centre are too high for most businesses so most businesses are looking for out of town, retail parks etc where their initial costs are lower than in the town centre but this unfortunately leaves the town centre failing to keep open new stores which the local government now realise they are not going to be able to attract people into the town centre.  Businesses are not going to get a property in the town centre with rates so high meaning that they will be unable to make a profit in their business.

Some businesses operating in the centre already feel that high parking charges are putting people off and not helping them with their trade and the local South Somerset District Council on how to address this problem and is it makes any difference.

The general public are invited to air their views on the Starbucks opening before June 13.
