A taxi driver must be at least 21 years old to be granted a licence to do their job however due to insurance issues they are usually over 25 years old.

As a taxi driver, you need to be calm, patient and have a good knowledge of the area you are working in.

Most taxi drivers are self employed so they pay tax from their earnings.

How much does a taxi driver earn?

Owner-drivers, who own their own cars rather than driving a company car, usually earn more than employed ones.

Average earnings are around £14,000, although being prepared to work late nights and early mornings will increase this figure.

The pay of a taxi driver would differ in different regions. A London driver would be able to earn a lot more than one working outside of London. Also as most drivers are self-employed then they would have to take costs into account as well which could add up. Has anyone ever had experience of being a taxi driver that they could share?
