When I left university I started out as a temp in a variety of office roles and ended up with a great job. Since being out of the workforce for over ten years after having children and running my own business, I am wondering whether temping would still be a good way to get back in to office work.

Temping can be a really great way to get work experience very quickly. If it has been a while since you have worked then it can give you an opportunity to get back in to the swing of work in a role without too much pressure. You will be expected to pick up things quickly but you will also be taught what to do. Some temping roles will lead to permanent jobs or will be more long term, others will be short term and so you can choose something that will suit your return to work.

Of course, you can just apply for office jobs and try to take on a permanent one straight away. This may take longer and will not give you experience of working in different places, which could be more valuable while you are getting used to getting back to being in an office again.

It depends – if you are looking for quick way back into work then yes temping would be good, not guaranteed to get a perm from it though.  Just being out of the working world due to having kids and running your own business shouldnt exclude you from applying for office jobs you really want

It could be a good idea to find out what jobs are available. It may be a good idea to apply for some permanent jobs first and then see whether you have any success before applying for temporary work.
