Tesco attended Reading’s largest job fair last week to fill in the region of 1,000 vacancies that the supermarket chain currently has.
The event was sponsored by JobCentre Plus and Reading UK CIC and gave job seekers the chance to talk to a variety of employers and apply for more than 2,000 available jobs.
Another 40 companies joined Tesco at the fourth Reading Jobs Fair, which was opened by the town’s mayor, last week. She stated that she was delighted to be supporting such an important event and was sure that it would help a large number of people to find work. She added that she was particularly pleased to see Tesco attending the fair again, indicating that this was a show of confidence by the retailer in the Reading area.
The retail giant ran workshops on the work that it does within the warehouse and distribution side of the business. Other companies had details of internships and apprenticeships for young job seekers and the National Careers Service ran seminars for those who wanted to improve their CVs and interview skills.
The jobs fair was declared a success, with many job seekers being able to apply and be interviewed for the jobs available.
Great news, sounds like a very big store or maybe a few stores to be in the local area if they can offer 1000 jobs!
Most should also go to the local people so that is even better news
From what I’ve heard, supermarkets are good employers and treat their employees good, especially huge stores like Tesco. I can’t speak from personal experience, but I do have friends working in Tesco.
The other good thing is that there are different areas to work in, and working your way up to management could be a good opportunity for the right person.
