Company Overview : Tesco was originally a market stall started in 1919 in London, and has now grown to operate in twelve different countries. Its staff count is around 530,000 people and is one of the market leaders in the supermarket industry. It’s committed to serving people and ‘providing the best shopping experience’. Their core purpose is ‘we make what matters better, together’, and their values reflect that customer service is important. There has been a recent shift in their values to also reflect that they have a responsibility as a corporate body.

Tesco introduced its Value products ten years ago, providing affordable versions of branded products to customers. The company has also expanded their product range to sell clothing, films, music and various home items.

It also serves an international market, and 29% of their profits now comes from outside the UK.

    How to apply

Their website tesco-careers.com allows you to search for a broad list of their different types of job position in the UK. Clicking on a job type and hitting the ‘Search’ button will bring up a list of their current vacancies with their location and Tesco sector, for example Head Office or Graduate sectors are included in this.

Clicking on individual job titles will bring up a job description together with details of location and the application deadline. Clicking on the ‘Apply Now’ button will take you to a registration page and once this has been completed you can apply online straight away.

    Interview Advice

Tesco expect their staff to have talent so prepare for the interview by making a list of your key achievements and what you learned from your previous job experience. Don’t be afraid to mention any accolades or awards you may have received before, particularly if it was related to providing good customer service and/or it was in the retail sector. Tesco places ‘relentless customer focus’ at the heart of what they do so show that you understand this. Come to the interview with ideas about how you could make a great addition to the team at Tesco, and do you research about their mission and values.

The company are looking for people with energy so come to the interview enthusiastic and well presented.

    Salary

This is given for each job position on their website once you click on the job title, however salary is often described as ‘competitive with benefits’. If this is the case then come to the interview with a salary range in mind, but let the interviewer bring up this topic first.
