Around an extraordinary 750 jobs may be created in Oxfordshire through plans to construct a large distribution warehouse dealing with internet shopping orders.

Outline planning permission was first granted in 2006 for the former research and development site owned by petrol giant Esso at Milton Hill near Abingdon.

    Tesco
is planning to build the centre on the available three hectares of land with subsequent plans for office space at a later date.

In discussions with Vale of White Horse council the company has asked if an environment impact study is required prior to a full application. When taking into consideration if an assessment is necessary, the Council will have to decide if the plan is likely to have considerable consequence on the local environment.

The original outline planning permission ran out in 2011 but a further five year extension was approved by the council.

The intended warehouse will operate 24-hours-a day, seven-days-a-week, and is believed will create at least 750 positions – the equivalent of 500 full-time jobs. The site would also include 500 car parking spaces with an existing admittance road to the A4310 improved.
