Tesco extension creates new jobs in Beccles.
Following months of planning, Tesco has completed a 10,000 sq ft addition to its store in Beccles and created 35 new jobs as a result.
The additional space, which houses new clothing and pharmacy departments, was built in response to customer demand. The supermarket has doubled the size of its fresh and frozen food ranges and the seating area in its Costa Coffee unit. Improvements can also be seen at the deli, meat and fish counters. The renovation work was carried out by a Norwich building firm.
The store’s general manager said that he was very pleased with the extension and was delighted to have been able to recruit 35 local people. He stated that he had received feedback from local residents that the extension and the new jobs were a great boost to the local economy and that everyone would benefit from the investment.
Planning permission for the alterations had been in place since the store first opened, indicating that there had always been a long term development plan in place for the site.
Celebrations to mark the opening of the extension, including face painting, entertainment, champagne and complimentary gifts, will take place this weekend.
