Supermarket giant Tesco is set to open an Express store on the site of a former pub in the Sandbanks area of Poole, creating 20 jobs.

The move follows speculation about the future of the vacant building.  A spokesperson for Tesco emphasised that the store is intended to provide a local service in the community.  She also explained that the company will be able to open quickly as no planning permission is required to covert the former pub into a supermarket.

Although the company stated that its plans will involve the retention of some of the building’s original features, the chairman of the Sandbanks Association stated that some concern had been expressed about the impact of deliveries to the store on traffic in the area.  Despite the announcement of the new jobs, a local councillor expressed regret at the demise of the pub and questioned the viability of a supermarket in an area where houses are used as holiday or second homes.

The Tesco Express store is expected to be open from 6 or 7 am to 10 or 11 pm and to offer some parking facilities via the former pub’s car park.

Will you be applying for the jobs?

I dont live in Poole so no I wont be LOL.  Its nice to see that old buildings are being taken over and reused without having the need for planning permission.  It may only provide 20 jobs, but thats 20 local people with a new job that didnt have one before!

Smaller Tesco stores obviously don’t provide as many job opportunities, but as Glenys has already pointed out, any job means that at least one person is in work, which is going to benefit the economy in a positive way.
