The Co-op to create approximately 20 jobs in Oadby

The Co-op has announced plans to alter an old pub into a Co-op convenience store which will create 20 jobs this autumn. The former pub, The Blues which is situated in Uplands Road, Oadby was closed 6 months ago and  unfortunately is the second store in Oadby and Wigston borough to close and change into a supermarket type convenience store as the other one is a Sainsburys store.

The new Co-op store will be open 7 days a week and will be able to sell alcohol between 7am and 10pm.  The site will be leased to the Co-op from Everards Brewery. The planning permission has been granted and will be serving the local community in the autumn which is good news for the local area.

It has been said that it is a real shame that yet another pub is going from the area to a convenience store but unfortunately the community no longer use pubs as much as they used to in an evening to go for a drink and if people do not use a pub then unfortunately it will not survive.

The pub situation changed after the smoking ban came into play and people now can buy alcohol cheaper from local stores and with high rents some pubs with no established food trade do not survive in this day and age. The time of the pub has changed for all and not many people just go to pubs to drink these days.

This is good news for the Co-op who will now have another store as part of their portfolio and also will be creating these jobs for 20 people and helping to boost the local economy.  The Co-op will work with the local community and people and hope all the recruitment to come from the local area.
