Becoming a travel agent is ideal if you are passionate about travel and are able to provide excellent customer service. The ability to organise and plan is key to this role as you will be responsible for booking customers holidays or business travel. You will need to be capable of giving advice about the country, resorts and accommodation, along with visa and injection information.

There is no formal training required although there are courses you can study to gain in depth knowledge.  You can study for a diploma in Travel and Tourism or apply for an apprenticeship in Travel Services.  All applicants for a travel agent role will possibly require basic English and Mathematics GCSEs due to the nature of the work involved. However key skills that you will need are customer service skills, the ability to be proactive and a good sales technique – many travel agent roles will have an element of commission based work as well as the salary.

Starting salary : £13,000
Experienced salary: £15,000 – £25,000
Senior salary: £30,000 plus

Other: There will be sales driven targets where you will have the option to earn extra for bookings made or upselling insurances and other products. You may also get a discount on your own holidays.
