Should a resignation be hand written or typed? Does it actually matter?

Just because you want to leave a job, does not mean that you need to be unprofessional. You will be relying on the company to give you a good reference and so you want to leave on good terms. If you would normally type things, then do so with the resignation letter. You may prefer to hand write if you have no printer at home or are not used to using a computer in your job.

I would suggest type! – This is not only more professional but it gives you the chance to spell check your work and saves crossing out which just looks awful on a handwritten letter

In the past, I would have said handwrite, because of the fact that it adds a more personal touch. However, in this day and age I would suggest that it would be better to type it, as it is easier to keep a copy in case you need it for future reference. This is important, as you never know what will happen, so all official letters that you send should be copied and kept.
