Waitrose are unveiling plans to open a new store in Royston as part of a multi million pound development. Kiafield Properties are involved in this new development and as well as a Waitrose supermarket, there are plans for a warehouse for chemicals and specialist metal company (Johnson Matthey) and a new southbound junction onto the A505. The site where Waitrose will sit is said to be a 30 acre site between York Way and the A505.

The Waitrose site itself will have an 18,000 square foot sales area with 200 car parking spaces, a 67,000 square foot warehouse for Johnson Matthey to continue in the town and this is just for starters.

The new development is showing that Royston is a town worth investing in and people are very happy to have a Waitrose in the town. It is also bringing approximately 130 jobs to the town which is great news for the locals seeking employment and increasing opportunities in the area.

The developers are hoping that this will act as a starting point for other businesses to want to join the local area further increasing the jobs and employment opportunities for the Royston area and they are looking at this development as Phase One.  The local councillors say that as the population is growing there is more housing people and a greater footfall and the residents are very keen to see a Waitrose there.

The development is yet to get permission to access the A505 which is a very busy road indeed and they will need another exit would definitely be a good thing for a new development.

A public meeting is being held on Friday 13th June where residents can ask questions and for feedback on the plans.

The Kiafield property developers are keen to get the community feedback and to hear from as many local people as possible to ensure that they all agree with the plans.
