Waitrose have announced that they have submitted plans to Rushcliffe Borough Council for a new store and the council are now due to make their decision on the store plus for other retail units next Thursday.

The new site is proposed to be developed on greenbelt land off Landmere Lane, Edwalton and because of this the council have recommended that the decision be passed to Eric Pickles who is the Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government to make the decision.

There are some who really do not support the new plans but not everyone has the same mind set and doesn’t support the proposal because of the location because the land is not used for anything in particular as some people are looking forward to it as they would like to have a Waitrose in the area because it is something different to what they are used to and also the jobs that it will create is excellent news for the local people.

The proposed store should create 200 jobs for local people and the project in itself represents an investment in the region of £20 million which is huge for the local economy. The council could still reject the plans and want to ensure that it has the full backing of the community before it has the go ahead and that it is in keeping with the local area.
If the plans are given the go ahead then the retail units will be served by a customer car park with 225 spaces, room for 24 cycle spaces for people coming on pushbikes and 5 motorcycles bays as well as a dedicated bus stop through the area.  The actual store will be the same size as the store Waitrose has in Newark and as part of this new roads have been developed and traffic light controlled junctions etc.
