So, what skills should be included on your CV?

Thats the one of the most important thing about creating a CV for yourself. Read the following advice from monster and try to make a new CV or just edit – revise the one you already have.

There are three key skills types:

Transferable – skills learnt in one field of work that can easily be adapted to a different field.

Job-related – skills of qualifications that are directly relevant to a specific job.

Adaptive – skills that are difficult to substantiate because they cannot be proven by experience but by personality traits.

Clearly, transferable and job-related skills are the most desirable to include in your CV. Be sure to include the ones that will help you stand out. Here is a list of skills that are particularly popular with employers:

    •     Communication
    •     Teamwork
    •     Initiative
    •     Problem solving
    •     Flexibility
    •     Computer skills
    •     Technical skills

If you know a particular programming language, put it down. If you have basic understanding of French, your reader wants to know. You can’t be expected to know the specifics of the particular bespoke accounting system they use, but by demonstrating the broad range of things you do know, you’re giving the impression that you’re a good learner who can retain information.

Here are my top skills that should be included in a CV

    • A foreign language (becoming more ‘in demand’ as companies deal with global partners)
    • Your formal qualifications (every single one, even that C grade in Religious Studies is important, they all add up to paint a picture of your academic achievements)
    • Your skills attained through hobbies (which proves you have external interests and can even suggest you are less likely to develop stress)
    • Your skills which are classed as personal attributes (for example, being organised, punctual, thorough, fast paced, confident, or an excellent communicator)
    • Your ability to drive, if you can (it can show an added sense of responsibility, the ability to commute, a higher incidence of punctuality and many other things)

Use your CV as your ‘paper skills portrait’!
