What’s it like working in Argos?

If you’re considering submitting your application to work in Argos, make sure you read this first so you know what you should expect to find when you get there.

We’ve asked several Argos employee’s for their opinion, and advice on what new starters should need to know – read on for a list of things you should know.

You’re likely to have to attend a group interview.  This is not the hardest examination you will have to go through, but you need to demonstrate that you are keen, flexible and hardworking.  There is a quick arithmatic test and a brief discussion.

Training usually includes an induction and walk around the retail unit, then watching some videos, and several computer based training courses.  Finally you get to work on the shop floor where you will be guided by other employees.

Most of the employees are friendly and easy to get on with. Most employees remark that they have good working relationships with their colleagues.  Part time employees, including students, generally work during the weekends.

There are opportunities for career progression within the company.

Pay will vary depending on location and the size of the store, but is generally only slightly above minimum wage for basic employees.  You get time and half for working on Sundays and team leaders get paid more.

You get a discount card for 10 per cent off at Argos from your first day, and 10 per cent off at Homebase after 3 months.

The run-up to Christmas gets pretty stressful and busy, but can be really enjoyable.

If you’re thinking of working for Argos, I can say it’s not the best place to work, but can certainly be suitable for earning some extra cash, and there are most definately worse places to work!
