Social Worker Cover Letter Example

By Guest Author

A social worker will need to have 5 GCSE’s and either two A-levels or a BTEC National Diploma in health and social care level 3 and so you will need to make sure that you mention that you have these qualifications or equivalent ones on your cover letter.

If you have any work experience in the social work field you will also need to state this. However, there are skills that you need for the job, which you need to show that you have. You will need to be a good listener and if you have done a previous job that needed this or you feel you are a good listener to your friends, then say so. You need to have initiative and so try to think of some examples in life where you show initiative.

You will need to be very observant, resilient, practical and flexible and so make sure that as well as demonstrating that you are a caring person you can show that you have those qualities as well. Use examples from school and life as well as work experience or volunteer work to show that you have the necessary skills for the social work job.

I am writing in order to apply for the position of social worker at your company as advertised in xxx.

I am a qualified social worker having worked for xxx for 5 years in their social work department, after completing a BA honours in social work at xxx university. I am signed up on the General Social Care Council register. In my last position I specialised in working with elderly people and feel that this gives me the perfect experience for your job, where most of the work is centred on the elderly. I am good at keeping my thoughts calm and organised at times of high emotion and stress. I am able to work practically and methodically to consider what the best solution is for the client.

I have good communication skills and so am able to discuss relevant issues with other relevant departments. I enjoy working as part of a team, providing support to others where necessary and completing work allocated to me efficiently. I have been used to working some late evenings and weekends and am flexible so will be able to do this if and when required.

Please consider my CV that is attached and I hope to hear from you soon.
