Career Change Personal Statement Example

By Guest Author

If you are going for an entire change this can be very daunting and could leave you unsure of how to explain your reason for career change and why you want to do a new role or new challenge.

You need to first look at the skills that you have that cross over to a new role and match any transferable skills to the job role that you are now interested in doing.
Consider why you want a change of career and why you have picked to apply for the role that you have?

If you have been on any training courses that are applicable to your new role then highlight these within your personal statement to show that you are serious about your career change and shows why you are making this change.

The below personal statement can be used as an example for your application:

Career Break Personal Statement Example

By Guest Author

If you have had a break from your career and you want to begin applying for jobs again it is important to address this rather than leaving an employer to imagine what the gap is for.

Many people have gaps in their CV such as: Travelling, Maternity/Paternity Leave, Returning to work once children are at school age, Relocation etc and most reasons are genuine but an employer will not be aware of this so it is important to explain why you have had a period of not working and why you are now looking to get into work. You can do this by highlighting the experiences that you do have and matching your up to date CV with the skills and attributes that they are looking for in the role they are advertising.

Below is a personal statement that you can use as an example:

If you are seeking an Accounting career then you will have either begun some accounting qualifications or be an expert with figures and looking to begin some accounting qualifications and looking for a Trainee position.

Whatever path you are looking to go down means that you will need to be from the same background – someone who is good with mathematics enjoys working with figures and detailed information and someone who can concentrate with numbers for long periods of time. You will also need to have excellent communication skills and be able to explain the numbers and what they mean to clients with less knowledge than yourself.

If you are ready to begin applying for roles then you need to assess your skills and experience to date and outline what the relevant skills are that an employer would be interested in that is appropriate to the role they are recruiting for.

If you are ready to apply for roles then you need to work on your personal statement

If you have finished university and are applying for graduate positions then it is important to remember that Employers taking on graduates will be interested in firstly the degree that you have done and the grade you gained and also what other experiences you have gained along the way.

This could be employment related skills through a year in placement or through a part time job to support your degree course or experiences more practical that show other skills and attributes such as Team working or hands on practical experience.  By looking closely at what the job requirements are you can match what skills you have and what you think they would be looking for in someone to do this graduate role. It is important to make sure that you stand out from the crowd as many companies get a number of graduate applications each year and you need to be different.

Unemployed Redundancy Personal Statement Example

By Guest Author

If you have been made redundant or unemployed for a period of time and you are looking for new roles that you can apply for then it is important to be clear with this information to an employer so that they know the reason behind you not being in work at the moment and look at this reason in a positive rather than a negative light.

In this day and age a lot of people have unfortunately been in a position of redundancy or unemployment and a lot of the time they had no choice in this matter and this period of unemployment can be a very difficult time for many people so it is important when applying for new jobs to be very upbeat and positive and view it as a good thing that allows you to start a new role, a fresh challenge using the skills and experience that you have gained from the past.

If you are leaving school soon and looking to begin work and are ready to start applying for jobs then once you have highlighted what kind of jobs you want to apply for then you need to start looking at what skills and experience you have to offer an employer.

Starting a career at such an early age allows employers to mould you into their company without already having any bad habits. It also means that you will be given the opportunity to learn as much as you can and take on board what you can depending on how much you want to put into your career.
