If you are looking to work in Veterinary then you will have studied for 5-7 years to become a Vet and gained some work experience through the process. Yow will have a keen interest in animals and normally Vets decide whether they have a preference over small or large animals which they like to work with but qualify to work on all animals.  You could also train to work as a Vet nurse and support a Vet in practice, assisting in operations, dealing with medication and the running of a veterinary practice.

You will need to be hands on be able to work in a physically demanding role if you work with large animals in particular and you will need to be able to keep calm under pressure and work following strict rules and procedures with confidentiality such as a doctors practice.

An employer will be looking to make sure that you have excellent communication skills and able to work closely with your clients who depending on what size animals you work with either come to a practice or you will be out on the road a lot more attending client sites such as farms and equestrian centres.

If you have found a Veterinary role you are looking to apply for, please see the below personal statement which you can use as an example.

I am very passionate about being a Vet and was very proud the day I qualified as a Vet from (what university, when and what grade). I have always wanted to work with large animals and in particular my passion lies with horses where I have done a great deal of work experience to date. I am happy to work with all animals and I am eager to learn new techniques and treatments along the way.

I am physically fit, very hands on, organised, pay great attention to detail, can concentrate for long periods of time and have a real passion for animal welfare. I am very excited about my career choice and looking forward to working with a variety of different animals.

Good luck.
